Under the direction of owners, Shawn and Casey Varpness, SC Productions is where an old-time rodeo event of barrel racing that has been around since the 1940s, is partnered with a little bit of Hollywood glam. Mixing rock ‘n’ roll music and barrel racing together with a touch of class. Established in 2009, SC Productions events are a harmonious blend of high-octane action and meticulous attention to detail. With the motto “Expect the Unexpected”, the focus of every production is to ensure that every attendee, regardless of their riding level, has an unforgettable experience. They expertly manage all aspects of barrel racing, from sponsorships and prize money to awards, ground conditions, and public relations, working closely with contestants to deliver the best possible event.
A Rich Heritage and Passion for Barrel Racing
Growing up immersed in the world of barrel racing, Shawn and Casey have deep roots in the industry. Their backgrounds are enriched by a love for competition and extensive experience in the barrel racing arena. Both started young, competing in local horse shows, 4-H shows, and WSCA events. Shawn also trained and showed reining horses, while Casey spent some time in the team roping arena. As they matured, their focus shifted to training colts and competing in barrel racing futurity events across the Midwest.
A Family Dedication to Equine Excellence
The couple has established a stunning equine facility in Rochester, MN, where they train horses and raise their sports enthusiast son, Colton. Shawn balances his career as a full-time power lineman at Peoples Co-op with his passion for training horses. Meanwhile, Casey has a successful career in the radio business, having become a partner in 2006. With ownership of seven radio stations in Iowa, her creative marketing and advertising expertise have significantly contributed to her success as a barrel racing producer. Casey’s dedication to the futurity industry is further highlighted by her role as a board member of Barrel Futurities of America.
